Completion date: 2016
Artwork budget: $400,000
Overview
I designed a modern urban plaza, the landscape architecture, and twelve exterior sculptures. The exterior sculptures, include five True North works, two Stone Axis Disks, Gateway and Light Veil (40 foot scrim). The plaza is 75,000 sq ft.
Goals
integrating my work was absolute. we decided early on that placing free standing sculpture was not a consideration. the bars and the big towers were worked into/ built right into their existing clear glass. late in the project i decided that a giant piece of black steel would replace the birch paneling and the 16ft. diec would live recessed in the steel.
Process
the client insisted on glass from the get go .when they saw my work and realized how authentic and monolithic glass can be we were off and running. through project dialogue/ preliminary drawings everyone agreed that working with their glass was the smart direction to go.
