Born in New York City, Sandy Litchfield lives in Amherst, Massachusetts where she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Massachusetts. She teaches courses that lie at the intersection of art, architecture, design and writing. Her studio practice– which focuses on contemporary representations of landscape and urban ecology­– includes painting, collage, installation, and public art. Litchfield has been commissioned to make permanent public art for the Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA Arts and Design, installing 12/2020) and NYC School Construction Authority, Public Art for Public Schools Program (2018). The mosaic/tile mural for PS14X was recognized by Americans for the Arts, 2019 Public Art Network (PAN) Year in Review, and CODAmagazine, Transformative Walls V 2019, CODAworx. Her artwork has been exhibited in numerous museums including the DeCordova Museum, The Portland Museum, and The Fitchburg Art Museum. She has received fellowships from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been selected for review by The Brooklyn Rail, New American Paintings and The Boston Globe.
