Profile Type: artist
James Tapscott is an Australian contemporary land artist and pioneer of experimental light. His work is primarily outdoors, and site-responsive, though also encompasses sculpture and photography. His collaborative approach to working with a particular site creates a carefully constructed sensory experience for the viewer. The experience is designed to be subliminal, non-objective, and to create a heightened understanding of natural phenomena and our ability to transcend traditional modes of perception. Having worked with the medium of light and as a land artist for over a decade, James has exhibited major projects throughout Australia and internationally, mostly throughout Asia. James has also recently completed high profile permanent public commissions in Perth and Shenzhen, China and is currently producing new works for installation in Wuhan and Melbourne. Recent exhibitions include the Changwon Sculpture Biennale in Korea, Canal Convergence in Arizona and the festival of Islamic Art in Sharjah UAE. James was also recently named one of the world’s top 25 creative revolutionaries by Codaworx
