Brief Description
In the wake of tragedy and devastation and marking the first anniversary of Hurricane Maria, which struck Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, Governor Cuomo established a commission to create a memorial honoring the victims of Hurricane Maria and to stand as an international symbol of the resilience of the Puerto Rican community (the “Memorial”). The Governor, under Executive Order No. 189, established the Hurricane Maria Memorial Commission (the “Commission”). As New Yorkers and Americans continue to mourn the lives lost, the Commission has been tasked to search for and provide recommendations pertaining to the site, design and installation to the Governor of the Memorial.
