Brief Description

The WMATA Art in Transit Program is working with the City of Alexandria to solicit qualifications from accomplished Artists/Artist Teams to create site-specific public artworks following the principles of Biophilic Design for the future Potomac Yard Metrorail Station. The selected artworks will be the first in a US Transit system to introduce biophilic elements and provide credit towards LEED Transit accreditation of a Metrorail station.

The North and South Pavilions of the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station have been identified as locations for the artwork. In order to provide a stimulating visual experience for the community and the customers as they enter and exit the station, the Artists/Artist Teams are asked to consider metal screens with a high level of transparency that are to be attached on the exterior of the pavilions façades’ glazed panels.
