Brief Description

This commissions is open to artists that live and work in the state of Illinois. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Complex covers three city blocks and is made up of Union Square Park, the Presidential Library (ALPL,) and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum (ALPM). The Committee is interested in an exterior piece, pieces, or installation on the east side of the ALPM building. The Committee does not wish to be limited strictly to Lincoln iconography and would like to explore themes that resonate throughout the study of Lincoln’s life including: freedom, liberty, humility, honesty, and ambition. The addition of artwork to this corner will enliven and activate the exterior of the building. It will also serve as a wayfinding aid for travelers and a welcome to visitors and Springfield residents approaching the downtown area from the east. The piece must be durable, safe, and cost effective to maintain and must be able to endure the rigors of the Illinois climate.
