Overview

Custom-made 1,007 square foot seascape-themed glass mosaic mural. ¾” vitreous glass mosaic tile in 28 different vibrant colors. 270,540 actual tiles were used in producing this mural.

Goals

This wall in the Caribbean Journey Wing leads visitors right into the exhibits. The vision was to have sea animals in the mural seemingly swimming right towards the main attractions. This was part of a 27 year old aquarium which had old, traditional mosaics throughout the facility. The new 71,000 sf addition features this HUGE mosaic and ties it all together.

Process

The mosaic project actually started after new construction of Caribbean Journey had already begun. There was a large, blank elevator wall and no plans were had been made. Exhibit designer collaborated with Artaic Innovative Mosaic to design and ultimately create this masterpiece. The mosaics are created using computer-driven robots and shipped to site for installation.
