  • Brief Description

Art competition in Hamburg to design the Denk-Ort (monument/contemplative space) for sexual and gender diversity.

The art competition will be conducted through an open international application process. Artists and interdisciplinary collaborative groups led by artists are encouraged to apply.

A monument site for sexual and gender diversity will be implemented by the Ministry of Culture and Media at the Neuer Jungfernstieg / Lombardsbrücke, a prominent location in the heart of the city of Hamburg. The realisation budget is 300,000 Euro (gross).

The monument is intended to create a place for the appreciation of ‚diversity‘ and the remembrance of the exclusion and discrimination against non-binary people. It is intended to commemorate the facts of stigmatization and persecution and also the suffering of non-heterosexual people and people outside the gender dichotomy. At the same time, the monument site is intended to establish a prominent space for all members of the LGBTIQ* community and encourage encounters, respect and acceptance.

Applications have to be handed in by February 13, 2024 under the following link.

An internationally open application process is carried out. From the applications received, up to 15 artists, groups or working groups will be selected to take part in an invitational competition.

The application procedure is open for international participants. Up to 15 artists, groups or working groups will be selected from the applications to take part in the competition.
