  • Brief Description

The Little River Arts Council is seeking leasable outdoor sculpture to be installed for a three year period (May 2024 – April 2027) in front of the Moon Lake Village Campus in historic Mentone, Alabama. In 2021, Moon Lake School was decommissioned after serving the community since 1911 and transitioned into an artisan & shopping area. The goal of this Public Art project is to activate and enliven the entrance to the historic structure. The Historic Moon Lake Village Public Art Project is phase II of Mentone’s Greenway Vision Project and represents the East Gateway to the town. The old white oak in front of the historic schoolhouse served as inspiration for the school’s motto “Firmly Planted, Moving Forward . We would like a sculpture that will have a resonance that relates to the mission for the arts and celebrates the natural history of the mountaintop hamlet of Mentone.
