  • Brief Description

The City of Fort Collins, Colorado, Art in Public Places Program is seeking an artist/team to collaborate with the Project Team and develop site-specific artworks for a Schoolside Park. The department, design team, and APP Board will determine the extent of the artist’s involvement in the project. Artist will start meeting with the project team immediately after the selection process.

The future park near Bacon Elementary School is 5.3 acres in size and it is located just north of the elementary school. The park site is bordered by the Mail Creek Ditch to the north and east, South Timberline Road to the west, and Bacon Elementary School to the south.

The Mail Creek Trail, which runs adjacent to the park site, will provide connections from the park west to the Power Trail and east to Kinard Middle School. Park features may include seating, passive and active recreational spaces, walking paths, natural spaces, a playground, a basketball court, a rectangular field, picnic areas, and an outdoor event space/outdoor classroom. The site offers beautiful westward views of the foothills and Horsetooth Mountain rock. It is the intent that the park design will be inclusive and will offer amenities for a wide diversity and age range of park users. The adjacent school has a Center Based Autism Program, and so the park design will incorporate features specific to the needs of children with autism. Given this student population, wayfinding and sensory related features are highly desirable. The team will develop the park design through the end of 2024 and construction is anticipated in 2025.
