The City of Bowie is issuing this Call to Artists to engage individual artists and artistic teams to create a mural for the City at the Bowie City Gym, AT 4100 Northview Drive, Bowie, Maryland 20716. The mural will be installed on an exterior wall of Gym facing Northview Drive and will be visible from the street. The brick wall where the mural will be painted is 18 feet high x 27 feet wide. The City seeks a new original permanent work of art made specifically for the site with a theme of social justice and diversity. The artwork should contribute to an inviting community space. The theme for this project is taken from a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “A threat to justice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” The artwork should tell a story, encompass a general sense of pride in the City’s inclusive and welcoming community, and encourage unity. The submission deadline is Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 12:00 PM. Proposals must be submitted electronically to Robin Jones at [email protected].
