Brief Description

The City of Raleigh Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining traffic signs and signals throughout Raleigh. As a result they have a stockpile of old and outdated signs and signals. The selected artist should plan to use the defunct road signs and signals in the recycling pile to create their artwork. The selected artist could use collage, re-assembly, cutting the signs in to unique patterns, or painting on the signs to create the artwork. Text and letters are permitted when used as part of the overall design. This project requires artists to be flexible and available to collaborate with the Office of Raleigh Arts in the process of overseeing the fabrication and installation of the artwork. Design proposals and their copyright will belong to the artists. The City of Raleigh reserves the right to use images of the designs and for review and project promotional purposes.
