Brief Description

The City of Minneapolis invites artists whose practice involves public art and community engagement to apply for a new project with an experimental approach to more collectively determining future sites for public art. The vision of the 2021 Project is to bring artists and city staff together early in the planning stages of public spaces to produce more integrated, community-responsive public art. Four artists will be paired with three city departments—one at Property Services, one at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, two at Public Works—to dig into their “capital improvement projects” (spaces and properties under development), conduct parallel community engagement, and select a set of them to formally recommend to a Public Art Advisory Panel for a different, future phase of artwork proposals.
