This project is commissioned by the Avila Beach Community Foundation in response to community interest in the arts and to further enhance the beauty and character of downtown Avila Beach. The Foundation designates a maximum award of $20,000, which includes contributions by Chevron, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, San Luis Obispo County District 3 Supervisor Adam Hill, The Sara Horne Fund, and donations by nearly 50 other Avila Beach residents. This highly visible public place announces the entrance to the Central Coast Aquarium's outdoor learning space, which is adjacent to a pocket park and yards away from the promanade and beach. There is no required theme, however proposals which reflect Avila Beach culture, heritage, industrial history (past or present), flora/fauna, and/or its eco-system are encouraged.
