Brief Description

A figurative life-size bronze statue of Perry Harvey, Sr. Perry Harvey, Sr. was a powerful labor leader and social activist who helped organize the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1402. He was a humanitarian, a champion for education, and highly regarded for improving working conditions for the longshoremen. Also a civil rights activist, Harvey was appointed to the race relations commission by Gov. LeRoy Collins in the 1950s.
