Overview
A beautiful centerpiece for a round-about park in D.C. This is a collaborative effort between Martha Spak as the designer and Project Coordinator and Kris Connors as the lead artist and Production Manager. The city wanted a public art sculpture to beautify this piece of land closed in by roadways with a design that expresses community and diversity. This piece is created from High-density foam sealed in fiberglass resin with embedded steel, mounted to a concrete base with stainless sheets incorporating word cutouts wrapping the base.
Goals
The city wanted a public art sculpture to beautify this piece of land closed in by roadways with a design that expresses community and diversity. Our design uses rings that are morphed together in parts to express overlapping relationships and community. The rings are then painted various colors to express the diversity of people and giftings.
Process
Martha applied for the posting and was selected as 1 of 3 finalists. After presenting her detailed plan and concept images, she was awarded the public art project. Kris then completed production and installation, while Martha completed the associated legal fees and logistics.
