Overview
Two large paintings (over 14' high) were commissioned for opposing walls of the grand stairway of the lobby, leading up to the ballroom. The concept incorporated the idea of seasons and specifically addressed the location adjacent to windows and associated the ascendant idea of the staircase with the upward growth of trees.
Goals
Integration of the paintings into the overall design concept of the hotel was very important. The paintings were to fit within the created niches and the colors were to contrast and balance with the wood tones of the interior. Textures and patterns were also taken into account.
Process
The designer conferred with a local art consultant company, Lewis & Graham, to commission the pieces. They oversaw the proposal, approval, progression and installation.
