An air-activated kinetic sculpture installed in Palace Way, Stamford, CT. Counter-rotating airfoils mounted with sealed stainless steel bearings on two 18’ flagpoles move independently.
The goal was to activate the pedestrian thoroughfare between the newly constructed Park Square West apartment complex and the historic Palace Theater.
Funding for the project came both from the developer and the City of Stamford Public Art Committee. There were numerous meetings that resulted in a design that suited the space and the public. There was also collaboration between the artist and the fabricator and between the artist and the flagpole manufacturer, both of whom provided useful suggestions and refinements to the design.
