Overview
This organic looking chandelier is 7' in diameter and made of steel and peeled branches. It was created for the lobby of the Denver Marriott Westminster in Colorado.
Goals
The chandelier concept was something that I had been working on for awhile, so I had created a number of art pieces that were essentially chandeliers that weren’t yet wired for electricity. This project was a dream come true for me to be able to use my design and make it into something as wonderful as a light for this really nice hotel lobby.
Process
The interior designer, Christy Thompson of Design DMU, was familiar with my branch work that integrated steel. She approached me to make this chandelier. It was a collaboration from the very beginning. I also worked with the very qualified lighting technician Dawna Holloway of EastBay Sculpture and Lighting, Inc. to make sure that we were creating something that was not only beautiful but also met the proper certification for a commercial site.
Additional Information
It is fascinating to work collaboratively with really creative people, it improves one’s own design sense and teaches one a lot along the way. Christy Thompson was so wonderful to see this possibility in my artwork and to trust that I would come through with the finished chandelier. The timeframe for completion was really tight so Christy, Dawna and I all had to work very closely to get it done by the deadline. I loved the process.
