Overview
“Welcome to Westchester” is a public artwork celebrating the local community and City of L.A. The 12,000 sq. ft diptych mural is seen from the north side of L.A.X. airport. The design “welcomes’ people in the seven most common languages spoken in L.A. The design also pays homage to the local Ballona Wetlands and its ambassador of flight, the “Snowy Egret”.
Goals
The primary goal of the project was to reach an international audience while celebrating the rich local community and it's history.
Process
In collaboration with my Otis College of Art and Design Course -"Murals and Civic Engagement", my students engaged in context-driven research using design thinking strategies to create concept sketches and images related to their research. I then synthesized that data into a final design.
