Overview

Walking Figure is an outdoor sculpture by Donald Baechler, located at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Suffolk County, New York, in the United States. The 30 ft. (9.1m) aluminum statue is likened to a character from a book. Developer Mitchell Rechler of Rechler Equity, the firm that commissioned Donald Baechler to sculpt the Hamptons’ newest (and largest) resident said, “The sculpture is bold and imaginative, with a liveliness that mirrors the modern design elements and positive, open feel of the Hamptons Business District.”

Donald Baechler, the Manhattan-based artist who designed the piece, said it “embodies the concept of forward motion. The ‘Walking Figure’ is always going into the future, going into whatever,” he said. “I think the whole idea of an airport is exactly about that, going from one place to another.”
