Overview

A mobile sculpture composed by 240 fishes (elements) in polyester resin reinforced with fiberglass. With a stainless steel structure and motor. Height: 40 meters. Diameter: 6.5 meters. Weight: 850 kg. The fishes of this mobile are arranged in order to describe a helicoidal movement, which describes another helicoid, creating a vortex. The vortex is the original movement of the matter, solar system, and life, and has been the figure of excellence for representing the ascension of the soul in the direction of the infinite.

Goals

The client wanted a sculpture for the atrium of a 9 floors building, to be viewed by visitors and workers. This mobile, 40 meters high, cover the extension of the atrium from the reading space situated at the ground floor until the ceiling of the atrium. Therefore this mobile sculpture can be seen from all offices situated at the other 8 floors. The steel structure and motor are hidden above the ceiling.

Process

The vision of the artist was converted to an engineer project in order to enable a helicoidal movement inside another helicoidal movement in order to create the vortex.
