Overview

Vigor is an installation of unglazed porcelain. Each of the pieces are hand made lotus seed pods. The Lotus is a symbol of health and the install is in the Health Care Professionals building at Northwest Arkansas Community College, in Bentonville, AR. The sculpture take up an are of space 9 feet long x 3 feet high.

Goals

The committee that choose my design from a call to artists, decided it was more fitting than the paintings that were submitted for the space by other artists. Considering the TV monitor installed on the center panel of the area, they felt the flow of the lotus seed pods fit better as a design feature.

Process

I worked with the help of my assistant, Mary Motes.

Additional Information

There are 38 pods and they create an interesting shadow pattern on the wall. The lotus seed pods were very detailed. There were seeds to be made for each of the holes in the pods with a false bottom under them to hold the in place. There is a raised coil shape around each pods hole. Texture was added to the sides.
