Overview
Vetter Stone Plaza creates a gathering space outside the new Civic Center Performance Hall addition in downtown Mankato, Minnesota. The Stone Wall features a topographical view of the Minnesota River’s curves and angulations as it flows from New Ulm, through Mankato and northward to St. Peter, Minnesota.
Goals
IS Architecture Group envisioned a wall to separate the Loading Dock area from the pedestrian walkway to the Performance Hall. The solution was a barrier that also acted as a sculptural focal point for the gathering space. The unique cut Vetter Stone is quarried locally. Mounted onto the stone is the River element composed of weathering Cor-ten and powdercoated steel. The offset between the 2 metals will feature LED lighting at night
Process
The Process involved a wide range of Partners: Twin Rivers Council for the Arts, IS Group Architects, City of Mankato Engineers, Vetter Stone Company, Mueller Studio, Korrin Lohmann, Bench design and fabrication, Webb Construction Mankato, MN
Additional Information
Special Thanks to Twin Rivers Council for the Arts for coordination, and Vetter Stone Company for their generous donation of stone and design work.
