Overview

The%20180%20foot%20long%20electronic%20canopy%20illuminates%20pedestrians%20passing%20below%20each%20light%20ring.%20The%20technologically%20contemporary%20work%20emphasizes%20movement%20through%20pedestrian%20walkway.%20The%20design%20and%20movement%20of%20the%20LED%20rings%20is%20a%20subtle%20reminder%20the%20the%20movement%20and%20flow%20of%20air%20that%20passengers%20and%20planes%20alike%20create.%20When%20an%20object%20moving%20through%20a%20space%20disrupts%20the%20pattern%20and%20the%20surrounding%20fluid%2C%20it%20will%20cause%20vortex%20and%20waves.%20%20The%20artwork%20is%20located%20over%20the%20moving%20sidewalk%20in%20the%20Pedestrian%20Concourse%20of%20Parking%20Garage%20C.

Goals

One%20of%20the%20goals%20for%20this%20project%20was%20to%20interact%20with%20pedestrians%20moving%20through%20the%20space.%20%20The%20100%20rings%20pay%20tribute%20to%20Dallas%20Love%20Field%E2%80%99s%20Centennial%20in%202017.%20The%20effervescent%20color%20shift%20of%20the%20rings%20in%20response%20to%20the%20constantly%20shifting%20airflow%20and%20heat%20patterns%20created%20by%20pedestrians%20makes%20the%20corridor%20lively.%20Central%20to%20the%20design%20of%20the%20artwork%20was%20the%20incorporation%20of%20movement%20of%20air%20created%20by%20people%20and%20aircraft%2C%20each%20of%20which%20leaves%20subtle%20vortex%20patterns%20in%20the%20air%20as%20they%20move%20through.%20%20The%20rings%20are%20the%20visual%20reflection%20of%20these%20patterns.%20%20Positive%20traveler%20engagement%20is%20an%20over-arching%20goal%20for%20all%20public%20art%20in%20the%20airport.%20%20This%20work%20contributes%20substantially%20to%20this%20goal.

Process

Collaboration%20is%20central%20to%20an%20effective%20art%20project.%20%20The%20Office%20of%20Cultural%20Affairs%20Public%20Art%20Program%20hosted%20community%20dialogues%20to%20discover%20what%20will%20enhance%20the%20travelers%20experience.%20Professional%20artists%2C%20architects%2C%20engineers%20and%20representatives%20from%20Dallas%20Love%20Field%20and%20resident%20airline%20staff%20reviewed%20submissions%20from%20over%20300%20artists%20to%20identify%20the%20best%20solution%20for%20this%20space.%20The%20selected%20artists%20worked%20with%20site%20staff%20and%20public%20art%20staff%20throughout%20the%20process%2C%20including%20the%20complex%20refinement%20of%20the%20final%20programming%20that%20provides%20animated%20visual%20engagement%20for%20the%20short%20duration%20of%20the%20passage%20through%20the%20corridor.%20
