Overview
An installation of etherial, dichroic, hand polished acrylic shapes for a grand lobby with colour shifts at every angle. A recently completed installation that is one of our favourites.
Goals
One of the primary goals of using dichroic film in a large acrylic sculpture is to create a visually striking and impactful work of art. The film's ability to reflect and refract light in a range of colors can create a dynamic and mesmerizing effect that captures the viewer's attention and imagination.
Process
Here is a general overview of the process:
Design and planning: Soffi Studio began by creating a design for the sculpture, taking into consideration the desired size, shape, and overall aesthetic. This involved creating sketches, 3D models, or other visual aids to help with the planning process.
Material selection: Acrylic is a popular material for sculptures due to its durability, versatility, and ability to transmit light. Soffi Studio selected the appropriate thickness and color of acrylic sheets for the sculpture.
Cutting and shaping: The acrylic sheets are cut into the desired shapes using a variety of tools and CNC machines.
Joining: Once the individual pieces have been cut and shaped, Soffi custom fabricated mechanical fasteners.
Finishing: The sculpture is then polished and finished to create a smooth surface and enhance the visual appeal. This involved sanding, buffing, or applying a protective coating.
