Overview
Kilroy Realty Corporation commissioned Malibu, CA based sculptor Jon Krawczyk to create a site specific stainless steel sculpture for a commercial property development in Mountain View, CA. Known for creating monumental public works, Jon Krawczyk was inspired by the organic shape of sea grass and translating its inherent beauty through the uncompromising material of steel for this project. Artwork Details: Jon Krawczyk, Untitled (Vertical Twisting Stainless Steel Elements), 2014, Stainless steel, 22 x 12 x 10 feet.
Goals
The goal of this commission was to visually enhance the public space of a new corporate campus housing electronic, hardware and software companies. Often Jon Krawczyk’s sculpture has a unmistakable technical quality that gives the appearance of defying the laws of physics on a monumental scale. These impeccably sculpted organic shapes elegantly enhanced the entry of the commercial space and integrate well into the corporate landscape of the high tech corridor of Silicon Valley, CA.
Process
The collaboration process was smooth between the KRC design team and my Krawczyk Sculpture team. Everyone involved was extremely helpful and consistent from initial concept design to fabrication to structural engineering and final on-site installation in Mountain View, CA.
