Overview
In 2015 I was given the opportunity to revise a mural I had painted in 2000. It was a biographical portrait of the Philadelphia printmaker Dox Thrash.
Goals
It was more important that the mural integrate well within the community and celebrating Dox Thrash's legacy as an artist, Vaudevillian, Buffalo Solider in WWII, pioneer of the Caborundum Printmaking Process, and active social activist.
Process
We involved the community with Paint Days so that they too could be involved in the process. It gives the neighborhood a sense of ownership once they see the completed project. I worked with Artist Willis Nomo on the design and fabrication. It took 6 weeks to complete and 3 days in install.
