Overview
Tres Caballos was imagined as a representation of three horses moving and interacting with one another. In collaboration with Artisan Forge MetalWorks, I was able to use all the steel working tools they had and I didn't. Five months in the making, it became clear that the images of horses I am know for in paint media, transferred to 3D sculpture. They showed my intense interest in the energy, power and motion portrayed by horses.
Goals
The goals were:
To represent the presence of three horses displaying different attitudes (active, passive, and observing).
To maintain a sense of movement that is much like a sketch and to channel the ancient, aboriginal X-RAY art of Australia.
Additional Information
The use of steel rods to comprise the majority of the crow’s body are an adaptation of the Ancient Australian Aboriginal portrayals of mammals in what is referred to as “X-Ray Art” as muscles, sinew and bones. The spaces, both negative and positive, are built to express energy and motion.
