Overview
Located in the new Bilheimer Tower of Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, FL, Tranquil Tides depicts a cresting wave gently floating overhead. Perforated aluminum waves are thoughtfully composed to draw the eye of the viewer towards the clerestory windows, and powder coated with a bright finish to capitalize on the abundant natural light. Stainless steel cables support the sculpture, with overall dimensions of 21’L x 8’W x 12’H.
Goals
Bilheimer Tower is a the newest expansion of Mease Countryside Hospital, with special focus on personalized care and unique, healing artwork. With its location so close to both Tampa Bay and Clearwater Florida, the client wanted a tidal themed sculpture for the lobby that would draw the eye up into the two story space. A vibrant blue and a custom teal color were used as an homage to the BayCare brand palette and to create visual contrast within the contemporary building.
Process
Susan Benjamin came to us with an idea for a suspended sculpture and the collaboration process quickly began. Susan served as our point of contact as well as the key liaison between our firm and the client, making sure everyone was in agreement with the design throughout the process. Enrique Juarez served as the project manager and was essential in making sure the site was ready for installation.
Haskell Construction was on site for the entire duration and also aided in the physical installation of the work. Installation occurred in two phases, with the hardware and cabling being installed first, followed by the wave elements. The client had a tight deadline for the project, but it was easily achieved through the collaboration and dedication of all involved.
