Overview

Designed and fabricated by Stanev Potts architects as a backlit wall sculpture for a Center City café. Using the mountainous terrain of El Salvador (the birthplace of one of the café owners) as conceptual source material, Stanev Potts architects extracted topographic sections and applied computational scripts to define an intricate surface.

Goals

The use of automated scripting was essential, both for the generation of intricate strip geometry, and the management and organization of hundreds of individual pieces within the material and tooling constraints of the laser cutter. Each panel was handset and glue laminated in a custom jig. All the plies were cut at NextFab, and all the assembly and installation was done by Stanev Potts.
