Project Team

Overview
As design team artist I developed several artworks for the park including the Swim and Dive Panel installation. Stop action copper and brass cutout figures depicting swim strokes and dive techniques are mounted on stainless steel panels. The panels are recessed into freestanding stucco walls that are sited at the entrance to the park’s Aquatics Center. The park received the 2014 Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association, San Diego Imperial Counties Chapters.
Goals
The goal for integrating an artwork into the entrance was to create a whimsical visual experience for arriving guests to the bay-side hotel. The light sculpture supports San Diego’s maritime brand and integrates the hotel into the downtown footprint.
Process
Close collaboration with the design team architect, lighting consultant and electrical engineer as well as hotel management and staff, was vital to realizing the light sculpture’s desired effect.
