Overview
The Waterkeeper was carved on granite. Its dimensions are 9 feet X 5,75 feet X 3,6 feet (275 cm X 155 cm X 110 cm). It was made for the city of Tonghe, Heilongjiang, China in September 2017. It represents a woman bending over a jar of water, a symbol for the protection of our drinkable water resources.
Goals
This sculpture was made during the First Tonghe International Sculpture Symposium. I was among the 10 foreign sculptors invited for this event. This event was organized by ISSA (International Sculpture Symposium Alliance) for the city of Tonghe.
Process
The city representatives selected the design among my proposed works. Dimensions were defined. They ordered the stone and gave me an assistant. A translator was always present on the work site. They took care of my transportation, lodging and food during my stay.
Additional Information
The city Mayor, and government representatives were present during this event. I was invited to talk at the opening ceremony. When I left the country, the sculpture was not yet installed to its final place.
