Overview
This is the fourth and most recent installation of public art in Texas based supermarket chain H-E-B. The visionary chain is continuing to realize a public art program in new store constructions and looking to Texas based artists to realize the commissions.
The H-E-B Enthusiasts is a series of six canvases by Heather Gauthier, a regional Texas painter. Gauthier shares the enthusiasm that many Texans have for the supermarket and blends her whimsical compostions with animals adorned with some of the store’s bountiful offerings. Her friendly animals welcome shoppers into the store with offerings of doughnuts, fresh produce, and delicious snacks in a grouping of large canves on the main entry wall.
Goals
A key goal of this initiative is selecting artwork that reflects H-E-B’s desire for vibrant, engaging compositions that resonate with the comminty which the store serves. This installation emphasizes the company’s value placed on people, with the artist including the names of two long time store partners Hugh and Levy.
Process
It was a swift proposal phase for Heather, with decision makers unanimously agreeing that these designs were the perfect fit. Heather worked on these large scale canvases, first painting the textile inspired backgrounds before completing the animals with the highest level of detail.
