The Bather is one of my most popular bronze works, residing in many private collections and public show spaces in the USA and other countries.
It is part of a series of life size and mid-size works I produced using a favorite model of mine, a beautiful young dancer. All of the pieces I created with this particular model intend to celebrate the female form in a peaceful and contemplative setting.
The Bather is at home in all of its locations, but it is at Brookgreen Garden, in South Carolina, where she truly enjoys the perfect idyllic spot. At Brookgreen, she sits on her rock in the dappled sunlight, underneath the spreading limbs of a tree, in front of a lovely pond. I feel the intimacy of this setting ideally conveys the quiet spirit I sought to infuse The Bather with.
