Overview
This exquisite art glass and metal cityscape was installed in an 11th floor high rise condominium, overlooking Lake Monona in Madison Wisconsin. The art captures the iconic lakeshore view of Madison and some of the city’s renowned architecture, including the State Capitol building, and the Monona Terrace, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The two-part glass and metal art is attaches to the wall with stainless steel standoffs. Goals
Client commissioned the artist to depict the iconic buildings in the City of Madison, overlooking beautiful Lake Monona. Coordination with subcontractors included development of the metal sub-straight, and laser cut buildings designed by the artist. Goals included creating art with a contemporary look, to compliment the interior design furnishings in the clients condominium.
Process
Meeting with client was set to review concept/budget. Two weeks later, a concept and color drawing was proposed. Timeline to fabricate art was set at 3 months. The client made a visit to the artist's studio to select colors of transparent and opaque art glass for the lake and buildings. Hand rendered concept drawings of the sub straight and individual buildings were sent to CAD designer to digitize files. Three mtgs were required w/ metal subcontractor. The fabrication of the 5' wide glass lake required skillful glass cutting and technical fusing. Artist hand-cut the glass for the lake using Bullseye COE 90. Assembly and creation of art was complete in 3 mos. Install was completed in 3 hours with help of one skilled technician. Artist coordinated with professional photographer to document art.
