Overview
The project brief was to develop an art work that would signal the educational focus of the new university building as well act as a focus gateway to the main entrance lobby. The art works development involved a colabborative dialogue with the staff and students of the Queen Mary University department of physics and astronomy. Consequently, the art work took as its inspiration the string theory of particle physics.
Goals
The integration of the art work into the space was of outmost importance as well as ensuring its night and day time presence both as a part of the internal gallery space as well as when viewed by people walking on the street.
Process
The art work involved the glass artist Livvy Fink creating both the individual glass art works and the overall concept. The artist Peter Fink created the programatic optical fibre lighting.
