Overview

Starcross’d Lovers is installed in the library at Trinity Christian College in suburban Chicago. This whimsical juxtaposition of flying “creatures” imagines a doomed romance and alludes to Shakespeare’s archetypal doomed lovers in Romeo and Juliet.

Goals

My goal with this project was to create a large-scale, allusive, and precisely crafted addition to the library setting within a modest budget. I wanted to pique the library user's curiosity by introducing a startling take on a classic literary trope with new and unexpected characters.

Process

Fabrication of the sculpture was completed by the artist. Installation was done in consultation with the college's maintenance and physical plant department, as well as student assistants.
