Overview
Free standing 14' x 4' x 4' memorial to fallen firemen, located at Allachua County Emergency Services headquarters. Four figures get smaller as they climb ladders, still attached to earth by breathing tubes, yet looking upward as the false perspective of the ladders suggests and endless climb,
Goals
The obelisk shape establishes a center point for the campus of the Emergency Services headquarters. It's message is metaphorical but clear, and it remends all those on the campus of their fallen brothers. The visual repetition of ladder rungs provided the artistic interest on which to base the design
Process
I worked with the fire chief and his staff to develop the theme. I worked on site with the mason throughout installation to ensure proper placement and appropriate mortar color.
