St. Petersburg-Clearwater Int'l Airport

Overview

Kelly Taaffe of Kelly Taaffe Design tapped us to create ceramic murals for the new Gate addition to St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport. We had worked with Kelly on the original renovation to the airport in 2010. We had also worked on a large-scale mosaic for Tampa Int’l Airport for Kelly in 1998.

Goals

The goal was to immediately establish a sense of place, and the feeling of “on vacation” upon leaving the plane and entering the gate.

Process

We presented drawings and samples to the airport board together and received final approval in 2015. Walbridge was the contractor overseeing the entire addition and road work. In spite of the problems associated with a huge project, all while the airport remained open for business, they took considerable time and effort to see the murals were safely stored and properly installed. Final installation 2018.
