Overview

This commission was to be a triptych of three independent yet related pieces. One central piece 34″high by 60″ wide and two companion pieces approximately 26″ square. They are all mixed metals textured, layered and richly colored with a hot process patinas.

Goals

The commission was for natural compositions in relief. Color, theme and process helped unify and connect the work and define the space. Available light from the opposite wall windows worked with the room colors to give these pieces a strong yet reassuring presence.

Process

The design process started with being given the theme, size limitations, space description, photos and colors of fabric and wall coverings in the room. I responded through the designer with colored pencil sketches and imagery proposals. After a few back and forth communications that included more sketches and variations work was begun in metal. Color consultations with the design firm and decision makers included digital images as the process concluded.
