Overview
In 2021, I had the distinct privilege of crafting an installation for OZ Arts Nashville. At the time, OZ Arts was preparing to welcome patrons for the first time since 2020, and they sought an exhibition for their visual art space that would gracefully lead guests through the venue into the main event area.
Upon receiving the green light to reopen their doors, I received a call with the exhilarating challenge of producing a brand-new body of work in under six weeks.
Goals
This was a poignant moment for celebration, occurring in a world that was still grappling with the grieving process even as vaccines were being administered. The art had to resonate with the emotional state of OZ Arts' audience as they returned to their cherished gathering place. The intention was for the work to be simultaneously inviting and contemplative, bridging the gap between the need for solace and the desire for connection.
Process
In a collaborative effort with the Manager of Artistic Programming, Daniel Jones, we diligently crafted a concept and corresponding sketches, which Daniel successfully secured approval for from the Artistic Director. Upon finalizing the project, I personally delivered the artwork, and it was skillfully installed by the art handlers hired by the facility and installed according to my exhibition design instructions.
