Overview
Spiral Galaxy is a suspended sculpture composed of approximately 3,000 handmade solid clear glass orbs hanging at a height of 9 to 12 feet off the floor in the 24' tall lobby of the Key Bank Headquarters tower in Cleveland Ohio.
Goals
The artwork is intended to bring a feeling of lightness and welcome into the lobby of the tallest tower in Ohio, an austere building of stone and serious business. This sculpture is meant to invoke the beauty and mystery of the heavens and inspires us to acknowledge our place in the vast universe.
Process
The project was commissioned by Kalisher and designed by Xen Design. The concept for the ceiling mounted steel armature was handed off to Dennis Alexander for the CAD design. It went to Blane Newton at Sterling Edge for waterjet cutting, then to us in Hawaii for assembly.
