Overview
Twenty-two bright orange foam figures float together in a group, symbolizing the
many refugees worldwide who risk peril to seek safety and freedom. Wind and
currents move the figures, making them even more lifelike and seemingly vulnerable.
The United Nations estimates that there are approximately 21.3 million refugees
around the world. Each figure represents one million of those refugees.
Additional Information
Selected by jury for the Fort Point Arts Community (FPAC)’s public art program, SOS was installed in Boston during the fall of 2016. It attracted much attention and conversation, garnering stories in print media, local TV networks, and blogs, as well as hundreds of social media mentions. FPAC called SOS its “most successful project to date in terms of audience engagement.”
