Overview
Skylanes is a 21,600 sq. ft. rooftop mural that explores the visual effects of color and geometry. Inspired by South Florida’s nature and tropical weather, the purpose of the artwork is to provide a welcoming focal point which engages the public while creating a visual spotlight for the 4th District Court of Appeal.
Goals
The $26 million building project came along just as the city of West Palm Beach was working on an ordinance to beautify rooftop parking decks. Initial drafts of the ordinance said that if developers wanted to use the tops of their buildings’ garages for parking, they’d have to adorn them with either landscaping or public art.
The goal for this project was to create a striking rooftop mural that complies with the city ordinance while creating a unique identity and sense of place for the building.
Process
In order to bring this project to life we worked very closely with the construction company.
