Overview
Won from a competition and designed to a budget sponsored by The Friends of Leesburg Public Art. To create a signature public sculpture for the Erick Brown skate Park.
Goals
To create a signature piece of skate park themed sculpture. A vertical sculpture that will draw attention to the skate park which sets back off of the road. Then deliver and install within a set budget.
Process
The piece was fabricated by bending tubing into rings and then stacking them on top of each other. Silhouettes depicting an inline skater, BMX biker and skate boarders doing various tricks were cut out of flat sheet steel and welded into the rings. The rings were then polychrome to match the color of the skate park cement and the silhouettes of skateboarders are in complimentary colors
