Overview
Shimmer, first conceived as a digital collage, is made up of an intricate composite image that was then digitally hand painted, and finally fused into the aluminum tiles. Virtually weatherproof, this sculpture can be installed inside or outside. Kinetic by nature, the individual tiles move and shimmer in beautiful and unexpected patterns with the slightest breeze. “Shimmer” is designed to present completely different visual experiences depending on viewing distance and perspective. 108" x 112"
Goals
This piece was self funded by the artist and created to show at ArtPrize 2014 in Grand Rapids, MI. ArtPrize, one of the USA's most attended public art shows, requires absolute cooperation and synchronizations between Artist and venue management.
Process
Philip Lynch was the artist/designer of this piece with the valuable artistic council of Francine Huss. Casual labor was employed for the heavy lifting. This piece was designed to be easily assembled and installed onsite.
