The Armory in Pasadena
Overview
Each tower is 8′-9′ tall, made of striations of differing colored clays, with some glass shards. Have made towers out of asphalt, concrete and other materials, depending on physical and conceptual relation to site.
Goals
All towers were proposed by artist for pre-existing spaces. At the Armory in Pasadena, the striated shards mimic the craggy striations in the San Bernardino Mountains Pasadena nestles against. The core samples in Bakersfield lie atop a vast but dwindling oil field.
Process
For CSU Bakersfield, I was chosen as "Sculptor On Campus" that particular spring, and sculpture students helped manufacture the shards.
