The words and phrases selected to be included in the new sculpture have been elicited by the students and staff during a series of workshops and field trips with a heritage in schools specialist recommended by Amanda Pedlow Offaly Heritage officer. The faciltatator explored key themes that refer to the life and history of St Brigid, the nature around Edenderry and the Grand Canal in particular. Ideas about being part of the school community, ideas about place, friendship, unity, nature, belonging, education and the history of the local area. Also themes about knowledge, spirituality, being and the local environment. Using these ideas as a springboard for further exploration the collected phrases and words have been selected to become part of the sculpture. These words and phrases explore the ethos of the school and help to further create a sense of belonging.
