Overview
In 2017-2018, Sculpture by the Sea was an exhibition of ten large scale bronze figures by Joy Brown in the beach park of Clearwater Bay, Hainan Island, PRC.
Goals
The ten sculptures were exhibited inland in the park as well as on the shoreline to complement the natural beauty of the tropical plants and the wide open sea and sky. This exhibition, the first of it’s kind on the island, was a surprise and delight to the residents and visitors to the park.
Process
Since 2009 I have been going to China a couple times a year to build this series of large scale bronze works in collaboration with Purple Roof Gallery and Atelier in Shanghai. This exhibition was curated by Purple Roof Gallery and myself.
